Ableton Live

To Berlin With More Love

2009.11.22 | Personal

Today I bought Ableton Live.

I love all the things Renoise, my main music program, can do and I am very found of making beats and tweaking sounds in it, but lately I have felt that it lacks creative ways of creating arrangements.

A lot of my music is being loop-based and the arrangement is done by using filters, different patterns and a few other things. I've often been able to "arrange" this by simply assigning a few parameters to my MIDI-controller and also by muting/demuting channels, and there you go - a first sketch of an arrangement. Those of you who have seen my youtube-movie, know what I mean.

The problem is that Renoise can't record that stuff easily, so instead I have to spend an hour to program some patterns, stuff that I could easily "play live" with Renoise in real time.

Therefore it will be interesting to see how things will work out with Ableton Live. There is so much stuff under the hood that it will probably take a while to get to know the ins and outs, but the experience will hopefully bring out a lot of fun tunes along the way! :)
